At Grand Etang National Park, in the interior of the island, the visitor information centre has many stalls selling spices and other goods. The biggest draw are the friendly Mona monkeys that climb over your head and shoulders and pose for photos. Natives of West Africa they can be found in only one other place in the world, Grenada, as they were transported over aboard slave ships.
Grand Etang Lake to be found in the Grand Etang National Park, is set in an extinct crater and is 1800 ft above sea level. It is truly a tropical paradise surrounded by a lush forest and has a calm but eerie feel. You may be able to catch fish with your hands in it and can be taken on hikes around it.
